Crafted along the St. Croix River in Minnesota, River Moon Coffee is an independent roastery devoted to coffee as both discipline and devotion. Each batch reflects a belief that daily rituals matter and that care, intention, and presence can be tasted.
Our Story
River Moon Coffee was founded in 2011 by Geoff Schodde, his partner in life, and their three children. What began as a family vision became a long-standing creative pursuit grounded in passion, precision, and purpose.
Geoff is not only a roaster, he is a lifelong musician. As a guitarist with The Rathbones, who were inducted into the Iowa Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2023, he understands craft as practice. Music requires listening, nuance, timing, and feel. Roasting coffee does too.
In music, tone is everything. In coffee, so is balance. The same attention Geoff gives to phrasing and dynamics in a song translates to roast curves, airflow, and development time in the roastery. River Moon Coffee is shaped by that same ear for harmony and that same respect for the process.
From the beginning, River Moon was meant to be more than a product. It is an invitation to slow down, pay attention, and create something meaningful from simple elements.

River Moon draws inspiration from what we call the sacred feminine, an energy of creativity, intuition, balance, and generative power present in all people. It is less about gender and more about honoring the forces that nurture, transform, and bring ideas to life.
That philosophy guides not only naming and storytelling, but sourcing and roasting decisions.
We work with responsibly sourced, high-altitude, shade-grown coffees selected for structure, clarity, and character. Roasts are developed in small batches to highlight origin while creating depth and approachability in the cup.
